Claim It.
Keep It.

An R&D credit isn't worth what you receive — it's worth what you keep.

What “keep it” means

Revenue can query an R&D claim years after it is filed.
We build every claim from your engineering record, with very little of your team's time. If Revenue asks, the answer is already there.

Ground-up evidence

Built from a year of GitHub, Linear and Jira activity, not memory.

People allocation

Each person's day is classified from the signals they actually left.

Narrative tested

Every narrative is tested against Revenue's qualifying criteria.

Defensible filing

Only projects that clear the bar are filed, and you see which ones before we file.

01 · Why now

The odds of Revenue asking you to prove your claim are rising.

AI did not just change how claims get written. It changed how they get checked, and opened a gap in between.

The market

Easier to write

Generative tools can produce a polished, plausible claim. Good writing is now the baseline, not the differentiator.

Revenue

Easier to test

The same tools can check a claim against known patterns, boilerplate and what a real claim looks like underneath.

The gap

Harder to defend

Neither shift makes a claim easier to trace to real engineering work. Closing that gap is what R&D-Pal was built for.

Which means the real question was never whether you can claim it. It is whether you can keep it.

Which is why

We build every claim bottom-up, from your engineering record, before a word of narrative is written. The evidence comes first. The story is built to match it, not the other way around.

See how painless this actually is.

A working session on your own repositories — we run the Evidence Engine live and show you a first defensibility read before the call ends.

No surveys.

No timesheets.

Nothing reconstructed from memory.

What clients say

We have worked with ProfitPal for a number of years now to assist with our R&D Tax Credit claims. The new R&D-Pal product they have built has been a real step change in assembling both the claim and evidence materials with minimal overhead / time input needed from our team. The quality of the resulting packs produced and the corresponding evidence is super impressive!

Brandon Dooley

Co-Founder, Bounce Insights

R&D-Pal gave us real certainty — a claim built from our actual engineering data, not assumptions. Combined with ProfitPal's years of experience taking a claim all the way through to cash, it's given us genuine confidence in a process that used to feel like a black box.

Sean Blanchfield

CEO & Founder, Jentic

What actually landed for me wasn't just the claim number; it was how little of my time it took, and knowing there were no blind spots in how the claim was built. That's what made it easy to trust.

Philippe Brodeur

CEO / Founder, Overcast HQ

We wanted a claim we could stand behind if it was ever queried. ProfitPal's approach, grounded in real engineering effort rather than estimates, gave us that confidence from day one.

Sean Mullaney

Founder & CEO, Seapoint

ProfitPal has been a true, high performing partner for NewsWhip in all of our complex R&D tax credits.

Paul Quigley

CEO & Founder, NewsWhip

Twitter complimented ProfitPal on their R&D prowess during the acquisition.

David Shackleton

CEO & Founder, OpenBack (acquired by Twitter)

03 · How it works

From source commit to a claim.

The same blocks of engineering activity travel the whole way through: captured, classified, structured into projects, tested, allocated and traceable at Revenue review.

Stage 5 of 5

Submit

Scored, banded, and traceable to source

Each project carries a band, and only what clears the bar is filed. At Revenue review, every section still traces back to the exact blocks it came from.

04 · Fee structure

Commercial alignment: we charge for outcomes, not reports.

No engagement fee and no retainer. We are paid when the credit lands, so we do not file work we are unwilling to stand behind.

✓

No engagement fee, no retainer and no charge for the report itself.

✓

We do not charge until the cash lands, so we do not add to your burn.

✓

If a project is not defensible, we tell you before it is filed, not after.

Finance lead

“A number I can put in the model and defend eighteen months from now.”

Every allocation traces to logged activity

Defensibility is visible before filing

Fees follow the outcome

Owner / CEO

“Cash I can plan around, not cash I might have to give back.”

Non-dilutive funding built to survive scrutiny

The team stays focused on the business

No engagement fee

Investor

“One process, applied the same way across the portfolio.”

A consistent method across portfolio companies

Diligence-ready source linkage

Clawback risk surfaced before filing

One process, on your own repositories.

Whichever seat you are in, the claim is built the same way: from the engineering record your team already produced.

06 · Alternatives

A claim is only as strong as what sits underneath it.

Five questions Revenue will ask of any claim, read across the three ways of making one.

What sits underneath

Doing it yourself

Memory

R&D-Pal

The engineering record

Where the narrative comes from

Doing it yourself

✕

Memory. It is strongest the day you write it and weaker every day after.

Larger advisory firms

✕

Interviews. Evidence assembled from memory, just someone else's.

R&D-Pal

✓

The record, captured at source. Built from what happened, not from what is remembered.

How the allocation is set

Doing it yourself

✕

A judgement call rather than a calculation. No data behind the number, only a sense of how the year went.

Larger advisory firms

✕

Judgement and benchmarks, not what the team actually did, day by day.

R&D-Pal

✓

Calculated from day-level engineering signal. Every percentage traces back to real activity.

When you learn where it stands

Doing it yourself

✕

When Revenue asks. Push on the claim and you are defending it in the hope it holds, not proving that it does.

Larger advisory firms

✕

Rarely before filing. You find out how strong it was after Revenue asks.

R&D-Pal

✓

Before filing. Per-project defensibility is tested first, not discovered after.

Who stands behind it

Doing it yourself

✓

You, and you know the engineering better than anyone.

Larger advisory firms

✓

An experienced sign-off and a professional pack.

R&D-Pal

✓

ProfitPal. Every claim is signed off with the evidence file behind it.

What it costs, and when

Doing it yourself

✕

Your own time, and the risk stays with you.

Larger advisory firms

✕

Fees charged when the pack is submitted, not when the cash is received.

R&D-Pal

✓

Under an hour of engineering time. The fee follows the outcome, charged when the cash lands, so it does not add to your burn.

07 · FAQ

Frequently asked.

A credit is not yours until it survives review. Revenue can query a claim years after it is filed. Claiming is the easy half; keeping it is the half R&D-Pal is built for.

Qualifying R&D is systematic, investigative or experimental work seeking a scientific or technological advancement while resolving an uncertainty a competent professional could not readily resolve.

The guided setup takes around 10 to 15 minutes of active time, followed by four short questions per R&D project. Total active engineering time is designed to stay under an hour.

Not during extraction. The Evidence Engine runs locally with your own access. You review the resulting evidence folder before anything leaves your machine.

Extraction runs locally on your own machines, with your own repository access and your own AI account, so your code and tickets are not sent to us while evidence is collected. A built-in exclusion list filters secrets, API keys, personal data and source code before anything is written to the evidence folder, and you review that folder before it leaves your machine. ProfitPal, Denis Breen & Co Limited, is the data controller for what you then share with us. We process it only to prepare and support your claim. Our privacy policy and GDPR statement set out retention periods and your rights.

It is our internal read on how a project's narrative and evidence would hold up if Revenue looked closely. We use it to decide what still needs work before filing.

Most contact starts as a query into one aspect of a claim. Because every section traces back to source activity, the answer begins with a record that is already there.

General AI can produce plausible R&D copy. The problem is not whether it can write; it is whether the claim is grounded in your engineering record. General tools can hallucinate, miss context and leave blind spots. R&D-Pal starts from the source evidence, and ProfitPal applies professional judgement before anything is filed.

There is no engagement fee and no charge for the report. The fee follows the outcome, after the refund or credit lands.
